The Importance of Being Present – An open Letter to the professional women's golf community

Have you ever wondered what it truly means to be 'present' both in work and in life? As a woman who lives for making dreams become reality I know a thing or two about what it takes to make it happen. I have assisted my professional golfing husband to get to where he is today and believe me it is not easy to obtain the necessary resources needed to get there. If it is not easy for a male professional golfer to obtain funding, considering the popularity of the PGA, how much more difficult do you believe it to be for women golfers looking to obtain a life on the tour?

Working with golfers you soon learn that there is more to it than just being 'present' out on course, playing a tournament and competing. Sponsorships and funding do not just happen; you will not just get noticed and snap up a brilliant contractual opportunity. This does happen to a mere few; yet for the rest it takes commitment, focus and hard work; not just to your playability on the golf course but in your every day life off the course. Your behaviours off the course are all a part of the package that you are proposing to your ideal sponsor.

The likes of Christie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Karrie Webb and Katherine Hull; just to name a few, are perfect examples. Their understanding of the greater expectations that surround a Professional Golfer's lifestyle and daily requirements have aided in progressing them to the levels they have achieved today. If you read into their histories you will note that during their early years, whilst attending university and obtaining degrees, they also had to make appearances, attend functions, corporate meetings, pro-am events, media interviews, photo shoots, PGA shows, serve customers from sponsor booths, personally market merchandise and assist at amateur coaching clinics.

Sponsorship and funding was granted to them due to their diligence and efforts on and off the course. They attended schools to educate others about golf and life, they worked with their agents to market themselves and the merchandise; promoting the companies they represent and the golfing industry. This is what it means to be 'present'.

For a lucky few the road to stardom is lined by the wealth of family and friends; yet this is a minority group and for the rest who have talent and dreams of being a LPGA Professional Golfer on Tour it is tough to stay financially afloat. The fact is that money doesn't grow on trees, it is not readily available and you will have to work for it. It is not always hard work yet it does mean opening ones mind to see a bigger picture that includes the off course obligations that will in turn help you to reap your rewards and achieve your dreams.

Being 'present' means to take a part, to play a role that advertises your versatility and business acumen that enhances your golfing talents. You are not just another golfer, not just another professional golfer, you are you and you need to market you and all that you are. You are a set of intricate pieces that collectively create the complete you.

What is a sponsor looking for? They are looking for someone who knows what it means to be 'present'. They are looking for someone who knows what it means to get involved and participate in activities that are less about playing golf and more about promoting and selling the brand, industry or organization backing your success.

Having a solid foundation and professional presence off course also highlights your mental and intellectual abilities and in turn this frames your behavior on the course; for it is well known that how one behaves on course is how they behave in life. If you take your life seriously off course chances are your potential sponsor will note that you are serious about your life on course too.

Therefore; if you are seeking a genuine sponsorship contract; one that will last you a good number of years on tour you will need to broaden your horizons and expand your scope on what it means to be 'present'.

Opportunities exist within the Golf Belles Organization for female golfers willing to be 'present' both on and off the course. Opportunities that will assist in promoting you, marketing your unique skill set and talents in all that you are; as a golfer and as a professional. It will require your participation, attention and dedication; yet most of all it requires you to be 'present' in every way, in every aspect of your life.

You will not be asked to perform any task that imposes on your tournament play yet you will be asked to conduct yourself as a professional at all times; promoting both yourself and the Golf Belles organization, on and off the course. Your obligations will be matched to your availabilities, capacities, capabilities and strengths. You will be required to be an active member of the Global Golf Sisterhood, attend events, pro-ams, photo shoots, clinics, mentor programs and promote merchandise; as requested.

In turn you will be rewarded with the benefits of having the Golf Belles represent you with the leading edge strategies in the industry; specifically catering to promote your profile and capturing the right funding and sponsorships to suit you.

By working together, making dreams come true, we will all play on the fairways of success.

We encourage you to contact the Golf Belles should you have any questions; and should you be interested in what the Golf Belles can offer you in terms of providing you with brighter prospects visit our website and send us an email introducing yourself and the dream destination you are heading.

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you all the best with your future.

With the Warmest Sincerity;

Tiffany - Director, Golf Belles Media Magic
